SONGWRITING COLLECTIVE
Join the Songwriting Collective in Utrecht – Write, share, and grow together
The Songwriting Collective in Utrecht is a weekly, supportive course to craft, share, and grow your original songs. The sessions alternate between lesson weeks (learning new songwriting tools and concepts) and sharing weeks (presenting your songs and receiving feedback). This rhythm gives you time to apply new ideas in your own writing while also building confidence by sharing consistently.

For whom
All levels welcome—beginners, intermediate, and experienced songwriters. Ideal if you want a safe space to share work, develop consistency, and connect with peers.
Important: while beginners in songwriting are welcome, some experience on an instrument is highly recommended so you can accompany yourself when sharing.
Objectives / outcomes
- Filling student’s songwriting toolbox with skills and methods they can draw from when creating their songs.
- Fostering a sense of community and support through our songwriting circle. Sharing ideas, giving feedback, and being open to input from others can be key to finishing your songs.
- Understanding that songwriting can be many things, a form of play and creative exploration, or even a way to process and cope with personal life experiences.
What to expect in sessions
At the start of every lesson, we will use the circle to check in on our progress, ask questions, and give feedback. This will become the Ground Zero of the course — a space to connect, reflect, and grow together. Throughout the semester, I will share knowledge and techniques that can help students enhance their craft and, most importantly, discover their own unique voice.
With 6 participants, each person typically has around 15 minutes to perform and receive feedback. Smaller groups will naturally allow more time per person.
The exercises will cover several areas, including:
- Lyrics
- Song Structure
- Composition
- Rhythm
- Co-writing
- Song Analysis
All sessions are in English, making it easy for both local and international participants in Utrecht.
Bring your instrument, a notebook or journal, and a pen. These will help you capture ideas and accompany yourself when sharing songs.
Come with an open mind and a willingness to:
- Write and share your music.
- Listen actively to others.
- Give respectful, constructive feedback.
- Step a little outside your comfort zone—this is where real breakthroughs happen.
Each group is kept small and focused, with a maximum of 6 participants. This ensures everyone has time to share and receive meaningful feedback.
